Bladen County’s Mild Temperatures
Bladen County is located in southeastern NC in the Coastal Plains area. It is known as The Mother of Counties, as 55 other Counties have been formed from it. Today, it is the 4th largest county in the state. Bladen County’s temperatures make it very appealing. We like to say it’s a great place to feel each of the four seasons without extreme temps. The average temperature is a lovely 63 degrees. Each season is evident and enjoyable but with milder temps. With our proximity to the coast, maritime weather does have its influence also.
Bladen County’s Proximity to NC Mountains and Beaches
Bladen County NC is perfectly situated in a prime location for rural living while being convenient to other wonderful locations. The ability to drive to the NC Mountains in 3.5-4 hours, and drive to the coast and beaches in about an hour, is a luxury not had by all. Enjoy Holden Beach, Fort Fisher, Ocean Isle Beach Sunset Beach, etc. Mountain towns are perfect for fall fever. Get out your plaid and hot cocoa, and enjoy a trip to Boone or Banner Elk to enjoy mountain views, snow skiing, and leaves in their peak of color. The accessibility to outdoor enjoyment within the county itself, as well as day trips to other scenic displays of nature, make Bladen County NC real estate enticing. A Rich Agricultural Background
The agricultural heritage of Bladen County runs deep. Farming yields beautiful views of blueberry fields, wheat fields, and vineyards, row crops such as corn and peanuts, cotton, soybeans, and tobacco fields. Country drives give display to old tobacco “stick” barns, where tobacco was twined by string and cured in old wooden barns. Blueberry farms with fresh berries available for sale are located near White Lake NC. Vineyards stretch across the county yielding prime grapes for
Duplin Winery, the oldest and largest winery in the south.

Jones Lake State Park with plenty of hiking trails, covered picnic areas, a non-motorized boat landing, camping sites for primitive camping and RV’s, and large lakes for your enjoyment. Located just outside of Elizabethtown and White Lake NC. Don’t forget
Singletary Lake State Park where you may rent a cabin or enjoy their well-kept camping sites. Singletary Lake has a 500 ft pier, with the perfect backdrop for fishing, sunset views, paddling, and bird watching. The ultimate bike trail is located within the city limits of Elizabethtown. Enjoy both biking and hiking on the
Brown's Creek Bike and Nature Trail. Or take a more intense hike on
The NC Mountains to Sea Trail which passes through our county. Tori Hole Park, rich in history, is nestled alongside the Cape Fear River and is a great place to enjoy river views, picnicking, trails, and a park with swings. The Tori Hole is a rich piece of history as The Revolutionary War Battle of Elizabethtown was fought there, in 1781.
Tori Hole Park has disc golf and river access for boating. Take the Elwell Ferry across the Cape Fear River, connecting the communities of Carver’s Creek and Kelly, NC, to enjoy rural scenic views and gorgeous countryside.
